Meeting Owl Setup

Summary

Many classrooms at JJC have web cameras and/or microphone for use with Teams meetings. Meeting Owl units are generally purchased by individual departments. The TSMS department also has a Meeting Owl that can be rented out for individual meetings/events.

Eligible Users

Staff and Faculty whose departments have purchased a Meeting Owl, or have requested a rental unit for a meeting or event. 

Prerequisites

Before a Meeting Owl can work with your laptop/device, you must first complete the set up instructions below. The device is not "plug and play". 

Troubleshooting or Setup Steps

Step 1: Install the Meeting Owl App from the Microsoft Store.

a. Open the Microsoft Store on your laptop/PC, then type in "Meeting Owl" in the search bar.

b. Locate the Meeting Owl App by Owl Labs and click Get to install it. 

c. Once installed, open the app and follow the prompts. Skip the step that prompts for Wifi. Enter your department's name and email address if prompted to register the device. 

 

Step 2: Physically Connect the Meeting Owl.

a. Plug the Meeting Owl into a power outlet using the included adapter. Then connect it to your laptop/PC using the provided USB cable. Power the device on (located on the rear of the device). 

b. Wait a moment while the device initializes - you may also see a blue button to start the firmware update. You should see the Owl's eyes light up and hear a short start up sound. 

 

Step 3: Set Meeting Owl as Audio and Video inputs in Microsoft Teams.

a. Join your desired Teams meeting. Check your audio and video inputs:

  • Microphone should be set to Meeting Owl Pro Audio
  • Speaker can be set to Meeting Owl if being used in a small space. Speaker should be set to the normal output for larger meeting spaces (Extron, Epson, etc).
  • Camera should be set to Meeting Owl Pro Camera

 

Step 4: Test your set up. 

a. Make sure that all attendees can hear and see you. 

b. If desired, you can test the Meeting Owl by first clicking on your calendar tab, then the "Meet Now" option in the upper left.
