This article explains how to register and use a phone number as a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method for JJC accounts.

Prerequisites

  • You must be able to access MySecurityInfo with your JJC credentials and secondary MFA method if necessary.
  • The phone you are adding must support SMS/text messaging.
    • Only traditional landline or mobile numbers are accepted. VOIP numbers (e.g., Google Voice) can’t be used.

Steps

  1. Navigate to MySecurityInfo.
  2. Click Add sign-in method.
  3. Choose Phone.
  4. Enter your phone number, including the correct country code.
    • For U.S. based phone numbers, use +1.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Enter the verification code texted to your phone.
  7. This code may take up to 5 minutes to arrive.
  8. Click Done.

Your phone number is now registered as an MFA method.

Verification

Once setup is complete, you can use your phone number as a verification option:

  1. On a laptop or desktop, go to jjc.edu.
  2. Click MyJJC.
  3. Enter your JJC email address and password.
  4. If you already set up Microsoft Authenticator or a passkey:
    • Choose I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now (or similar wording).
  5. Select Text +X XXXXXXXX##
    • ​​​​​## stands for the last 2 digits of your phone number.
  6. Enter the texted code. Click Verify.
  7. Choose whether to stay signed in.
  8. You should now see the MyJJC portal page.
